Dental Implant

In an unfortunate event of where the tooth has to be extracted, there are three main options to replace the tooth and have the gap filled again: denture, bridge or dental implant.  Even a single tooth loss can have a considerable impact on a person’s life, confidence and self-esteem.

The most popular treatment that comes closest to having a natural tooth again is a dental implant.

Dental implant is made of titanium that replaces the “root” part of the tooth when placed in the upper and/or lower jaw.  Once it is integrated/healed into the bone, implant crown is then connected.  Dental implant looks, feels and functions like a natural tooth and it also has the highest long term success rate (over 90% after 10 years) and patient satisfaction when compared to other options to replace missing teeth.

   Treatment Sequence

  1. Consultation - the first step in getting a dental implant is a comprehensive initial consultation with one of our dentists, who will examine your teeth, gums and jaw bones.  A 3D CBCT x-ray is required and is taken in-house to assess the quality and quantity of the bone where the implant needs to be placed.  Other important structures, such as nerves and sinus areas are also mapped out when determining the implant positions.  A treatment plan is then provided, detailing the cost and appointments needed for your implant treatment.

  2. Surgery - under local anaesthetic, the implant is placed in the jawbone as planned and left to integrate for a period of approximately 12 weeks.  This healing period can be longer depending on the procedure and patient’s medical history.  A temporary tooth can be fabricated for this period if necessary, especially where the gap is visible.  This procedure takes around 1-2 hours depending on the number of implants placed.

  3. Implant test and 3D scan for crown fabrication - after about 12 weeks and once the implant is confirmed to have  integrated, a 3D intraoral scan is performed so that the crown can be fabricated.  Usually no local anaesthetic is needed for this appointment.

  4. Crown insertion - a custom made crown is fitted to the implant, which completes the dental implant treatment.  Usually no local anaesthetic is needed for this appointment.

Dental implants, like natural teeth, can last a lifetime if they are well cared for and maintained.  Regular flossing and brushing is a must and as part of the general checkup and clean, dental implants are also examined clinically.

From Simple to complex, Invisalign can fix nearly all common teeth-straightening and bite issues.  The treatment is an alternative treatment option to the conventional metal braces.  It is nearly invisible, removable, no or less pain compared to braces and easier to maintain oral health.  You can still floss and brush your teeth as per normal.

As part of the treatment plan, you will receive the cost, flexible payment option, the treatment timeline and instructions on how the treatment works.

Custom Aligners

Your custom aligners, precise and personalized, will be made using SmartTrack material to provide optimal patient comfort.  Each time you visit, you will receive multiple aligners to last you until your next visit.  Generally, each aligner must be work for 7-14 days before being discarded and replaced. Each aligner are to be worn for approximately 22 hours per day.

Attachments

Tooth-colored attachments may need to be glued onto some of your teeth to help your aligner move your teeth as needed.  These are very discreet, barely noticeable, and polished off at the end of the treatment.

Appointments

We will see you and monitor the response of the teeth on regular basis and you will get your next set of aligners.

Finish

For patients with simpler cases, Invisalign aligners can produce results in as little as six months.  Most adults complete Invisalign treatment within 12 to 18 months as a general rule.

Basically, the cost of Invisalign treatment depends on how much you want your teeth moved and how many aligners are needed to achieve the desired outcome.  Depending on these factors, the cost of the Invisalign will vary between $4500 to $8000, including retainers.

Braces

There are a variety of reasons people needing braces at any age.  Braces are efficient and effective on crooked/crowded teeth, spacing between teeth, an underbite or overbite, a crossbite, or an incorrectly positioned jaw.  Braces are not only correct the position of the teeth, but also improve the overall oral health.

With technological advancement, modern braces are far more advanced that traditional metal braces making it more comfortable and less noticeable to wear with proven results.

The timeline varies as every person has different needs, however the average treatment timeline for braces is 12 to 18 months.

The cost for adult braces is from $5000 to $8000. for single arch treatment and $7000 for double arch.  This includes the retainers at the end of the treatment.

Endodontics(Root Canal Treatment)

A root canal treatment is required when the nerve inside of a tooth becomes infected or is dead(necrotic) and this is often accompanied by toothache.

The inflammation or infection can have a variety of causes: deep decay, repeated dental procedures on the tooth, a crack or chip in the tooth and pulp damage by an injury to a tooth.

At Exceptional Dental, our dentists or an Endodontist  (root canal specialist) removes the inflamed or infected pulp, clean and shapes the inside of the root canal, then fills and seals the space. Afterwards you will return to your dentist who will place a crown or other restoration on the tooth to protect and restore it to full function.

Root Canal Treatment are typically performed over three appointments:

Appointment 1

Partial Pulpectomy (Pain Relief)

The dentist will place a medicated dressing in the tooth.  The majority of the toothache pain should subside within 12-24 hours following this stage of treatment.  Not only our specialist endodontist but also our dentist performs the first stage of root canal treatment (partial pulpectomy) for pain relief.

Appointment 2

Cleaning and shaping

The endodontist makes an opening in the crown of the tooth. Very small special instruments are used to clean the pulp from the pulp chamber and root canals and to shape the space for filling. Once cleaned and disinfected the tooth is then redressed and a temporary filling is placed.  The next appointment can be usually after a week later.

Appointment 3

Once the tooth has settled and is pain free, the temporary filling will be removed and our endodontist fills the root canals with a biocompatible material while ensuring complete sealing of the root canals.

We always recommend a dental crown once the root canal treatment has been completed.  The reason for this is when a root canal is finished the tooth is often weaker and more fragile and if the tooth is not crowned or restored there is a risk of a crack splitting the tooth and the tooth being lost.

The cost of root canal treatment varies depending on how complex the root canal system is and which tooth is affected.  Molars are more difficult to treat and the fee is usually more.  Most dental health fund policies provide some coverage towards endodontic treatments.

Periodontal Clean (Deep Cleaning)

Periodontal clean is very similar to regular cleanings, but it takes care of exiting problems. Periodontal disease is an infection in your gums.  If you don’t do anything about it, the infection can spread resulting destroying the soft tissue in your mouth or even leading to your teeth falling out.

Deep cleaning is only needed for people who have periodontal disease,so if your oral health is in great shape, you won’t need to get a deep cleaning.

Your regular check up and cleaning is a preventive care by checking any signs of problem and provide a thorough cleaning such as removing bacteria, plaque and tartar.  During Periodontal cleaning our Dentist/Oral Health Therapist will get in between your teeth and down to your gums (root planing) as well as removing tartar. Our dentist/Oral Health Therapist will also examine the pockets of your gums and flush the area with antiseptic to help with disinfection and controlling the the infection or inflammation.

The cost of periodontal debridement-per tooth is $52 and $260 for periodontal surgery-per tooth if required.

Wisdom Teeth Removal

Wisdom teeth are the last of your teeth to erupt into the mouth.  They erupt between the ages of 14-22 and removing wisdom teeth is a very common treatment.

Sometimes a wisdom tooth becomes stuck below the surface of your gums(impacted), and grow at an odd angle, possibly causing complications.  Impacted wisdom teeth are often susceptible to infection around the gum and decay in the tooth.

Wisdom tooth extraction is a surgical procedure to remove one or more wisdom teeth.

The best place to start is to book a consultation with our dental surgeon who will take a specialised x-ray of your wisdom teeth.  The dentist will assess the angle the tooth is growing and make a decision as to whether or not wisdom teeth extraction is required.

We have a vastly experienced team of dental surgeons and they will explain all of the pre and post operative instructions.  We also have a range of sedation options available.

In many cases your health fund will cover some towards the cost of the removal.  The cost of the wisdom tooth removal is based on the range of difficulty and complexity.

If you’d like to make an appointment or contact us with any questions about your wisdom teeth - we are here to assist you.

Dental Sedation (GA General Anaesthetic)

If you have dental anxiety and have found that other distraction techniques or IV sedation have not worked for you in the past you may require a General Anaesthetic for your dental treatment.

A general anaesthetic causes a state of complete unconsciousness, and patients will feel no pain and have no recollection of the dental treatment that was provided.

Exceptional Dental is proud to offer general anaesthesia service for our patients at Exceptional Dental Brisbane or at local hospitals on the Gold Coast.  We have been offering this service in our Brisbane practice since 2018 and our experienced in-house anaesthetist and the team have helped countless patients who have requested this service.

The dental fees of the treatment do not change, but you will find that the overall cost of the treatment is higher due to the fees of the anaesthetist and the theatre. Theatre and anaesthetist fees are based on the time taken from the start of the procedure to the end.

Kids Treatment Under GA (General Anaesthesia)

General Anesthesia is used for Kids when conventional dental treatment is not an option.  This is for children who are unable to cooperate, are extremely fearful, anxious, or uncommunicative or require significant surgical procedures.  This treatment means that your child is fully asleep during the treatment.

All our Kids treatment under GA  is performed by our specialist paediatric dentist in a specially designed dental theatre in Exceptional Dental Brisbane.

The treatment cost will include dental fees, theatre fees and anaesthetist fees.  Theatre and anaesthetist fees are based on the time taken from the start of the procedure to the end.

The average time taken for comprehensive dental care under GA is around 1.5 hours.

We are a preferred provider for Medibank, Bupa, HCF, NIB and accept all major health funds.
